Brief history of water pressure concept in porous and fissured media, from XVIIIth to beginning XXth centuries in France
Abstract
For nearly two centuries, observation and experimentation about water pressure in soils, rocks and structures have been carried out before succeeding in building up a theoretical model, which helped if not allowed the construction of large civil engineering works, required by the water management projects of our time.
