The problem of cracks on the walls of the Stavronikita monastery in Athos mountain (Greece)

On analyse le problème des fissures sur les murs des bâtiments du monastère Stavronikita du mont Athos (Grèce) dues au glissement de la masse rocheuse sur laquelle est fondé le compartiment oriental du monastère.
On détermine les conditions géologiques et tectoniques de la région, les modalités de glissement et la géométrie de la masse rocheuse glissante, et à l’aide des projections stéréographiques, on précise les conditions d’équilibre de la masse rocheuse glissante.
Abstract
An analysis of the problem of cracks on the walls and foundation of Stavronikita monastery in Athos mountain (Greece) has yielded evidence to support the relation of these cracks with the landslides of the rocky mass where the eastern part of the monastery building lies.
The geological and tectonic conditions in the area are determined, as well as, the cause and the geometry of the sliding rocky mass. With the help of stereographic projections the equilibrium conditions of the whole system are analysed.
